Located about 83 m s.l.m., it is after Olbia and Tempio Pausania the most populous municipality of Gallura, territory of the Sardinian north-east. Located about 25 km from Olbia and 45 km from Tempio Pausania, it holds a considerable importance from an economic point of view, being together with Olbia a very dynamic reality, both demographically for the population almost tripled since the sixties that continues to grow at a rate + 16% every decade, both economically from a tourism and hospitality point of view. The municipality, a hamlet of Tempio Pausania until 1922, is divided into several hamlets and inside is the famous tourist resort called Costa Smeralda.
