Portovenere, also wrote Porto Venere, is the smallest town in the province of La Spezia.
Popular holiday resort of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century - among its most famous visitors there was Lord George Gordon Byron - is still a top tourist destination of La Spezia and the Ligurian landscape.
In 1998 he achieved for its architectural and natural heritage entry in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO protected - along with Rolli of Genoa and its historical center the only two goods entered for Liguria - and since 2001 headquarters homonymous regional Nature park.
