Your tour starts with a visit to Plovdiv, considered to be one of the oldest settlements of Europe, with more than 7,000 years of history. Plovdiv is situated on the crossroads between the West and the East, amid the fertile plain of Thrace, where history and modernity go hand in hand. On a guided tour, explore the modern city and admire the impressive remains of the Ancient Roman Empire, including the Roman Stadium, Roman Forum and Amphitheater.
After lunch (own expense), continue to Perushtitsa, located in the foothills of the Rhodope Mountain. Discover the town's heroic history as you visit the Church St Archangel Michael — the last stronghold and refuge of insurgents in April 1876 against the Ottoman domination — and the Historical Museum. Next, visit the Red Church, one of the most remarkable examples of Early Christian architecture in Bulgaria.
Your final stop will be at a nearby winery, where you will have chance to taste a selection of Bulgarian wines.
