Tamu Kota Belud is a weekly event, held every Sunday. The market, or 'tamu,' brings together vendors, farmers, fishermen, and cattle breeders. You may even catch a glimpse of the impressive Bajau horsemen wearing their splendid finery and traditional swords. This 5-hour tour includes minivan transport from Kota Kinabalu.
Your day begins with a pickup from your Kota Kinabalu hotel. You will be accompanied to the weekly Sunday market in Kota Belud, a colorful combination of sights and sounds where traders gather from all around this northern region of Sabah to sell their products. The tamu is as much a market to trade as it is a gathering place for friends and neighbors. Vendors proudly display their goods and entice passing customers with their bargains.
At the open-air market you'll find everything from fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens to delicious cakes and a wide range of local goods. It is advisable that you don’t eat a large breakfast before the tour, as you will find a rich variety of foods and snacks to try (own expense).
After your cultural and culinary explorations, you're driven back to your starting point.
