Explore Ethiopia’s world-famed cuisine on this full-day tour. While immersing yourself deep in the culture of Ethiopia, your taste buds will have a busy day in the office. On this popular tour, you will be presented with the challenge of baking the spongy bread injera with local mothers, experience a full Ethiopian coffee ceremony and learn to bargain with the savvy spice dealers in Africa’s largest open air market, Merkato.
You will be picked up from your hotel between 7:30 and 8am. Accompanied by a driver and a local guide, you will head to Atkilt Tera, the biggest vegetable and fruit market in Addis located conveniently between the two largest market areas; Merkato and Piassa. After exploring Atkilt Tera, you will be taken to the largest open air market in Africa, Merkato and you will visit the spice market. Concluding your visit of Mercato, you will have a chance to demonstrate how well you know the Injera making process; a group of expert injera making women will teach you how to make Injera and you will have a chance to show how perfectly you can bake it.
The injera baking challenge will be followed by a typical Ethiopian lunch at the oldest hotel in Ethiopia, Taitu Hotel. After lunch, you will have ample time for some sightseeing of Addis Ababa's mesmeric old town Piassa. You will then travel out to a city by the mountains called Sululta for the drinks part of the food tour. In Sululta, you will get to experience the Ethiopian traditional coffee ceremony and Sululta's organic honey wine. Concluding the tour, you will head back to your hotel while enjoying some more of Addis's beautiful views.
