El Yunque Rainforest is composed of mountains that face the trade winds, which bring moisture from the ocean, resulting in precipitation over a diverse ecosystem that is considered one of the most diverse and studied in the world. On this tour, you'll be able to hike areas that are not normally seen by most tourists. Your local guide will take you on a ~2 mile hike round trip through the rainforest, where your small group you will be able to experience the majesty of nature. You'll have time for a lunch break, but food will not be included in the tour.
With this excursion, you will feel like a local, not a tourist. Your tour will start with a pick up from your hotel or the San Juan port at 9am. From there, you'll travel to the start of the hike in the El Yunque Rainforest area. Please be aware that do reach some of the areas, guests will be expected to do a more advanced hike. Parts of the hike will be over rocky and uneven surfaces, as well as some with inclines that require balance. Please be aware of your own limitations and don't push yourself; safety comes first.
Your first major stop will be at Yokahu Tower, where you'll be able to enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the reserve. From there, you'll also stop at a hidden natural swimming area, so make sure to bring a swimsuit!
There will be time for lunch (food not included in tour), as well as plenty of breaks. Please make sure to dress appropriately for this level of hiking:
- Wear comfortable shoes for walking in slippery and wet terrain, such as an old pair of sneakers (with good grip) or hiking shoes (NO Flip Flops)
- Day pack with water and snacks so your hands are always free
- Comfortable shoes (sandals, flip flops, etc) for after the tour
- Swimsuits already on and towels
- Rain jacket or poncho
- Sun block, sunglasses and a change of clothes
The tour will end with your transferring back to your hotel or port around 4pm.
