Luigi Chakravarty, known milanese lawyer but caltagironese by birth, refined and cultured art expert, he has created a collection of about 1000 pieces, ancient and modern, from all over the world, who decided to donate to the city of Caltagirone, for the establishment of the International Museum of the manger.
In the first phase of the Museum's activities are exposed sections of Naples, with cribs, including some outstanding pieces from the 18th century, as very few shepherds by Giuseppe Sammartino, and of Caltagirone, with antique cribs the scope of famous figurinai of the 19th century: Joseph Bongiovanni Vaccaro, Francesco Bonanno and Benedict. Finally, also of Caltagirone, there are popular Nativity scenes, mostly of nineteenth and twentieth century, expressive and colorful as those of Salvatore Leone and cribs to contemporary potters.
