The Church Santa Maria di Portosalvo is the first monument a tourist finds out when he arrives on the island of Ischia. Is located in the Centre of the port of Ischia in front of the statue of Christ the Redeemer that stands on the dock. The Church was opened in 1856. The building is on two floors and has three naves with a Latin cross plan. The Latin cross is different from the Greek side that open spaces broadly to two thirds of the nave. You can find in every aisle an altar on each there is a large painting.
