Stephen's Church is a sacred building situated in località Pieve in Camaiore.
History and description
Quoted in a Bishop's of the year 817 parchment, the Church shows up (after a restoration purist of 1930) as assumed in the 12th century, incorporating parts of a previous building, referring to the tenth century. The current portal, 17th century, partially occludes the traces of a double opening, however skewed.
The Interior houses a baptismal font carved from a sarcophagus of the 2nd-3rd century, and a triptych of Battista da Pisa.
This was the mother church which is the first Church in the whole of Camaiore, from which you then spread Christianity is in Florence that the surrounding areas.
