in the main square of Montalcino is Piazza del Popolo. The main building of the square is the palazzo comunale, also called Palazzo dei Priori (built late 13th, early 14th century). The Palace is adorned with the coats of arms of Podesta ruled the city throughout the centuries. High medieval tower is incorporated in the building. Close to the Town Hall, is a Renaissance structure with six round arches, called the lodge, which was started at the very end of the 14th century and finished in the early 15th, but which has undergone much restoration work over the following centuries.
