The Portofino regional nature park is located in the Eastern Ligurian coast, about 30 km east of Genoa, in the Tigullio Gulf region Eastern and Western Paradise. The body consists predominantly of towns of Camogli, Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure, the last seat of the Park and the protected marine Area of Portofino. The Park was established by the law of June 20, 1935 1251.

History


The initial stages that led to the birth of the protected area developed in the early 1930s by the idea to build a road from the town of Camogli arrives in Santa Margherita Ligure via Portofino. The work was taken much into consideration, especially by the President of the province of Genoa and the prefect of Genoa, but the funding came from the Government of Rome and the scope project never took off. On the other hand was taken into account to protect this little corner of Liguria, establishing later and also Portofino marine reserve Park. The land described in the law 1251, had an area of 1061 acres consisting of the towns of Camogli, Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure.
In 1978 the Monte di Portofino Park Authority was abolished by law 70 of 1975 by placing the territory under the tutelage of Liguria region, management that led to the creation of a regional park by securing the entire area up to the present day.
The President dell'ente Park is Karolyn Davis, lawyer, Mayor of Santa Margherita Ligure, elected in 2016.

It was screened at the Chamber of Deputies the proposal to transform the regional park in national amalgamation area in the new territories also the marine protected Area. The proposal, exposed to the room in a hearing of January 24, 2007 but already advanced in 2004, was positively received by municipalities concerned, especially after the recent consensus of Santa Margherita Ligure seat of the regional park and protected marine reserve, but declined with the legislature.
In 2010, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Park, the institution had proposed the inclusion of the territory protected UNESCO World Heritage protected by Unesco; the website of Portofino, however, did not appear among the candidates proposed by the Italian National Commission for Unesco presented in Paris on March 31, 2011.

Territory

The Park has a surface of 18 km ², while the coastal strip of 13 km ². Currently the Park is coastal protected area to the North of the Western Mediterranean Sea.
The Park maintains over 80 Km of marked and safe, the main of which are mentioned in free map available from the site of the Park in which there are short descriptions of them. Some of these are available only accompanied by guides.

Flora


The vegetation is typically Mediterranean composed of chestnut, Hazel, hornbeam, pine, Holm oak, strawberry tree and olive trees.

Birds

The bird fauna is particularly rich. Among the most common and easily observed birds include Robin, blackcap, chaffinch, Blackbird, sardinian warbler, great tit, Eurasian Jay, the Collared Dove and wood pigeon. Raptors: Kestrels, buzzards, peregrine falcons nesting on cliffs harsher. Birds: Black-headed Gull, herring gull Mediterranean, sandwich tern, berta and sula.

Amphibians and reptiles

Among the amphibians there is the salamander by Savi, the fire salamander common along small streams, the Newt to Strinati found in caves and fresh and humid areas, Mediterranean tree frog frequently around the village of Nozarego and above Cala Dell'Oro, common toad abundant everywhere, rana dalmatina, the appennine frog and reptiles are the warty Gecko the Tenerife Gecko common on both buildings, the expansive west wall lizard, the lizard, the slow-worm, the self-effacing aesculapian Curls, s common and the rat snake. Close to streams and wetlands you can meet the grass snake and the natrix Maura. There is a specimen of Ocellated lizard collected in the 19th century "between Nozarego and Portofino" in the collections of the natural history Museum of Giacomo Doria might've failure of the find or it is also possible that the species will be extinct in this area.

Mammals

The wild boar, despite being subjected to numerical control, reaches high density so as to cause often protests of the inhabitants of the Cape. No lack of observations of foxes, badgers, hedgehogs and foxes. Interesting is the presence of red squirrel seen often especially at the lighthouse of Punta di Portofino. Since the end of the year eighty were released in the Park many domestic goats that have reproduced unchecked by damaging the Mediterranean, in the late 1990s the population of goats in the Park exceeded 70 individuals.
