The Museum and centre of documentation of deportation and resistance was inaugurated in April 2002 in the presence of the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
In 2008 the Museum was recognized Foundation of regional interest and has among its objectives to preserve the memory of the deportation and those who lost their lives in concentration camps and Nazi death camps and in the struggles of resistance and liberation from fascism.
At the Museum and guided tours are organised for groups and schools, films/documentaries, books presentations, workshops of historical sources and survey training courses for teachers. The Museum and Center care initiatives dedicated to the memory of the founders, on behalf of the Regione Toscana edi other public bodies.
The path in the Museum of deportation is conceived as a symbolic trip to a concentration camp and extermination camp Nazi, that path of suffering and death made by millions of women and men, arrested for racial reasons, politicians or "social hygiene", victims of the Nazi project implemented during the second world war.
