The Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence, mainly performs the function of restoration of works of art belonging to the various types of art; There are, in fact, in its three locations, specialized workshops in the following areas: stone, bronze, gold, ceramic, terracotta, mosaics and plastic materials (historical site in via degli Alfani), wall hangings (Hall of flags in Palazzo Vecchio), paintings, frescoes, wood, textiles, paper (home of the Fortezza da Basso, Viale Strozzi .1). The workshops are open to the public, on telephone booking (0554625441-0554625448), on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.
Also, in historical site is located the Museo Opificio casket of treasures, which houses masterpieces of semi-precious stones that belonged to Grand Duke of Florence. Recently renovated rooms, you can admire the splendid materials and amazing technique of ' committed ' fiorentini, mosaics and various precious stones, furniture products from 1588 in the late 19th century from the manufactory was created for this purpose by doctors.
