In the eighteenth century some representative rooms of the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany started to be engaged on picture gallery until the collection opened to the public in the early 1800s. The Gallery shows the taste of the Medici and Lorraine collections both in construction, decorative principles and inspired by a princely gallery representation, both in art predilection of sixteenth and seventeenth century represented by artists such as: Raphael, Andrea del Sarto, Pontormo, Tiziano, Tintoretto, Veronese, Caravaggio, Rubens, Van Dyck, Velazquez. At the gallery are annexed monumental apartments that preserve the furniture of the period in which they were residence of the Royal family of Italy.
