Opened in 2001 in a historic building from the 18th century, is the first museum dedicated specifically to oriental art that was born in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

It houses collections of Oriental art, memories and mementos, weapons, musical instruments, records of various kinds, from the Asian area.

The Civic Museum of Oriental art is located just steps from the unification of Italy, the limits of the old city, spread over four floors, divided into various sections: the first, introductory, illustrates the relationships between Trieste and the East in XVIII-XIX centuries. the section dedicated to Gandhara sculptures; the China section, fabrics, porcelain, pottery, ritual objects; the Japan section that exposes porcelains, enamels, lacquers, masks, musical instruments, in particular the popular theatre, weapons, armor, and a significant collection of prints.
