Stone Bridge

Ponte Pietra (Verona)

Roman Stone Bridge, the only Roman bridge still visible in the city, because of the bridge, Which collapsed in 1153, can be seen today only the base of the pylons in the shallows of the river Adige. The Stone Bridge consists of five arches, four of which were blown up in 1945 by retreating Germans, and were later rebuilt with stones retrieved from the river. Quaint and picturesque is the use of different materials.
