Piazza del Comune (Prato)


The town square was built at the end of the 13th century, at the intersection of two major roads in the city. The oldest building which retains its original appearance is the Palazzo Pretorio was built Later, the Town Hall, formerly home of the Priors.
The Fontana del Bacchino was made of bronze between 1659 and 1665 by Ferdinando Tacca, on the occasion of the recognition of the status of the city of Prato. In front of the Town Hall is the statue in Carrara white marble dedicated to lawn, merchant Francesco Datini, by Antonio Garella (1896), which portrays the character in the Act of turning the testament to the poor, who were recipients of his immense wealth through the institution of Ospedale del Ceppo.
