Palazzo San Giorgio

via della Mercanzia 2 (Genoa)

Palazzo San Giorgio, Palazzo delle Compere di San Giorgio, is a historic building of the most important and well known. It currently houses the headquarters of the port authority.
Initially named Sea Palace because directly overlooking the docks, with the sea that lapped the foundations, was built to a design by friar Oliverio, architect and Cistercian monk, around the middle of the 13th century. The Palace is today in two respects: to the portico of the 13th-century building, Ripa in red brick and stone base, and the 16th-century wing facing the port, with the painted plaster. All brochures are full of details and stories.
