The Museo Civico "Amedeo Lia" was established in 1995 and opened to the public the following year, thanks to the important contribution of Amedeo Lia and her family to the city of La Spezia. the collection, housed in the seventeenth-century convent of San Francesco di Paola, includes about 1200 works, from classical times until the 18th century, attesting to the passion and vision of the collector. Exhibition spaces are divided into thirteen halls arranged on two levels, with a path that starts from the former Church and the dell section of works ancient and medieval art. In the beautiful picture gallery which occupies almost the entire first level and second level's collections include paintings from the 13th to the 18th century, with plates of Pietro Lorenzetti, Lippo di Benivieni, Paolo di Giovanni Fei, Antonio Vivarini, paintings by Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Canaletto, Bellotto. Form individual homogeneous cores the portraits section-including the Self-portrait of Pontormo, portrait by Titian, Gentile Bellini and Sebastiano del Piombo the caravaggeschi, of Venetian art, Italian and Flemish still lifes. Yet mention the precious Italian and foreign miniatures from the 13th to the 16th century. Among the furnishings include prized glassware and stained glass, painted ceramics, bronzes, wooden artifacts and rock crystal, ivory and gold d medieval sacred art, enamels, expression of taste and culture of the time in Italy and Europe. the Museum provides special courses dedicated to disabled people and plays an intense teaching activity aimed at schools.
