The House-Museum is located in the place where once stood the castle of Vespignano, within which, according to tradition, Giotto was born in 1267. It was used as a central collection of documentary material and testimonies about the life of the great artist. In 1987 there was a permanent exhibition on the work of Giotto. After the renovation, which began in December 2001, the House was reopened to the public on 13 September 2002. The new production, which opened the October 11 2008, does not occur as a Museum in the traditional sense, but as a space of experience, meet and artistic production,
The Museum is named after the great painter Fra Angelico, born at Rupecanina, part of the municipality of Vicchio. It was established to protect the works of sacred art and enhance both the artistic aspect that the close relationship with the local culture. The arrangement puts the works in their historical and religious context, with continuing recalls, through didactic panels and locations, places, and moments of the religious culture of the territory. First opened in 1967 was closed in 1993 and reopened with the current arrangement in 2000.
