Adventure in the mine of Villanders

The silver mine of Villanders, nominated for the first time in 1140, was donated by Emperor Frederick Barbarossa to the monastery of Novacella in 1177. The Villandro mountain is all dug up. About 750 m altitude counts well galleries 16, for a total of 16.5 km, of which two thirds are dug by hand, and a third with the use of explosives. Up to 1943 were mainly extracted lead (galena), copper, pyrite and iron sulfide, blenda and silver.
