The castle of Lerici is one of the monuments symbol of Liguria. The Fort stands on top of a rocky promontory overlooking the Bay. The Castle stands on a low rocky outcrop to the West of the village, in a charming landscape setting. It offers a splendid view of the Gulf of La Spezia and Lerici Castle. It was built by the Genoese in order to strengthen the defense system of the Gulf. Today the castle is open to the public.
