Cathedral

The Basilica of San Martino Cathedral was built on the site where once stood an ancient Paleochristian Church, later evidence of a religious building built in 850 and dedicated to San Martino. The present building is the realization of a project of 1517 by Tullio Lombardo, and the nearby Bell Tower is a later period: in fact his project, by Filippo Juvarra, was built between 1732 and 1743, while the dome was completed only in 1756.

MUSEO CIVICO

The Museum was established in 1872, thanks to the donation of the important collection of paintings on wood and canvas, from Doctor Antonio Giampiccoli. This first nucleus was later joined by the collections of bronzes, medals, plaques, seals, coins, manuscripts and books of local interest own by count Florio Miari. The exhibition was housed in the Palace of the College of Jurists, built in 1664, still the seat of the Museum. The ground floor is occupied by the archaeological section which documents the long history of Valbelluna from the Middle Paleolithic to the Middle Age. The Lapidary is

TRIP

Palazzo dei Rettori

Building on several occasions starting dal1409 until 1536, you are not even sure about the name of the architect, who could be either the Venetian Giovanni Candi or Florentine Lorenzo Ghiberti. Also between 1536 and 1547 was built the clock tower, designed by Valerio Fiesole from San Vittore. It was the seat for almost four hundred years of Rectors of Belluno, currently hosting the prefecture.

Piazza dei Martiri

Martyrs square (also called Campedél) in Belluno, features a semicircular shape. Historical studies claim that this form depends on the radius of the time bombs thrown on the apex of the Tower walls no longer exists. The piazza is located immediately outside the walls of the ancient city.
