The Caltanissetta archive was established as a result of provincial organic law 1° ag. 1843 and became, with the r.d. 22 Sept. 1932, no. 1391, provincial Archive; with l. 22 Dec. 1939, n. 2006, assumed the name of State Archives section and with the Sept. 30 d.p.r. 1963, n. 1409, to State archives. Until 1951 the Caltanissetta section picked up the documents of the province of Enna, in which only that year was established a section of the store. Duomo Cathedral of Santa Maria la Nova

The Cathedral of Caltanissetta, situated in the historical centre of the city, was built between the years 1560-1620 and was opened to the public in 1622.
