Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Metaponto

Metaponto, starting from the end of the 7th century BC, was home to one of the most important Greek colonies of southern Italy. The Museum presents the archaeological framework of metapontino territory from prehistoric times to the late antique period and is divided into various sections covering: • the initial forms of the settlement by the Enotri-Choni during the Middle Bronze age and the iron age; • the arrival of the Greeks from Achaia (region of Peloponnesus) during the 7th century BC, • the formation of Cologne with the occupation of the land and town development, • the transformations

Archaeological Park of the Urban Area

The archaeological area is home to the remains of the monumental city of Metapontum, founded by Achaeans during the second half of the 7th century. BC
Includes the urban sanctuary, part of the Agora and the North-South Road axis on which you set the entire urban system.

The Temple of Tavole Palatine

The remains of the monument are located in the archaeological area of Metaponto, more precisely on the last ripple of Givoni, ancient coastal cords, at the right bank of the river Bradano, erected on the ruins of an ancient Neolithic village, along the road from prehistoric Heraclea-Siris, about 3 km from the ancient city of Metapontum.
The temple was restored in 1961, was initially attributed to the worship of the goddess Athena, later on a vase fragment, found during archaeological excavations of 1926, was found a votive dedication to the goddess Hera.
