Book this half-day trip in advance as it only runs twice a week, Wednesday and Saturday. You will embark the North Borneo Steam Engine train from Kota Kinabalu to Papar. The journey will take approximately 4-hour and travels from Tanjung Aru Railway Station to Papar. You will experience the lush landscape of the coastal and rural regions of Sabah. A typical “Tiffin” colonial lunch will be served on the return trip.
Our professional guide will meet and pick you up at the Kota Kinabalu hotel's lobby around 9am. Upon arriving at the Tanjung Aru Train Station, you will embark on the traditional steam train.
The train will depart at 10am from Tanjung Aru Station. Along the way, soak in the green vistas of sprawling paddy fields and the traditional village homes on stilts before stopping at Kinarut Town. While here you can visit the Tien Shi Temple or some of the traditional shops.
Your train ride then continues from the Kinarut Station at 11am, passes through the Kawang Forest Reserve, and arrives at Papar Town where you can visit the local wet market and shops.
The train will head back to Tanjung Aru without stopping, and a typical “Tiffin” colonial lunch will be served on-board. You will be transferred back to your hotel safely after the trip.
