Discover charming rural landscapes and the joys of Sichuan cuisine on this 8.5-hour private tour of the countryside around Chengdu. Enjoy a 3-hour bicycle ride through bamboo forest and pretty villages, feast on a traditional Sichuan lunch at a local restaurant, then explore the Sichuan Cuisine Museum.
Your personal guide and driver will collect you from your central Chengdu hotel at 8am or a little before in private air-conditioned vehicle. It will take about an hour to drive out to a small village in Pixian County, where you'll don your helmet, hop aboard your bike, and begin to cycle along the Pixian County Greenway, Chengdu's most popular cycling track.
Pedal along the river, part of the UNESCO-listed Dujiangyan Irrigation System, for an hour and a half. The paved track runs through pretty local villages and tranquil bamboo forests that feel miles away from the bustle of Chengdu city. When you arrive at Wenjiang County, you'll loop back to the starting point through serene orchards.
Sichuan cuisine is renowned not only for its spiciness and the tongue-numbing tingle of Sichuan pepper but for its delicious taste and blend of colors and flavors. Discover traditional Sichuan cooking at a local restaurant as you enjoy a leisurely lunch: your guide will explain the stories behind what you eat.
At 1:30pm, it's time to learn more about Sichuan food. It's about half an hour's drive to the Sichuan Cuisine Museum, which showcases the cooking of this expansive province. Learn about the history of Chinese cooking, its intersection with Chinese medical theories, and how it has evolved over time – such as when the chili pepper arrived from South America and became a favorite ingredient for Sichuan cooks.
You'll spend about an hour and a half at the museum, including a relaxing cup of tea, before driving back to downtown Chengdu. You should be back at your hotel around 4:30pm.
Please note: advise all passenger heights at time of booking to ensure correctly-sized bicycles are available.
