The majestic mountain of Ausangate is considered God’s protector, and is currently the fifth-tallest mountain in Peru at 6,384 meters. In the middle of the snow-capped mountains and herds of alpaca is Rainbow Mountain, known as “vinicunca”, meaning hills of colors. Vinicunca is found in the district of Pitumarca, province or Canchi, and the region of Cusco, in the south of Peru, and is currently inhabited by communities in the high Andes with their llamas and alpacas. This 15-hour tour led by a bilingual guide includes breakfast and lunch and has a maximum size of 15 guests.
Your adventure begins when you are picked you up from your hotel at 3:30am, traveling towards the south of Cusco until arriving at the starting point, Quesiuno (4,326 meters/14,189 feet), which is about a 3-hour car ride. Upon arrival, you will have a delicious, continental breakfast, and then will start the hike. Along the path you will find herds of llamas and alpaca, and at the same time you will see the majestic Ausangate surrounded by snowy peaks. On the way you will pass local communities, the only experience in the world with flora and fauna typical of Puno. After walking approximately 4-5 hours, you will arrive at the hill of colors, known as Rainbow Mountain (5,020 meters/16,466 feet). After arriving, you will enjoy the beauty of the mountain, the only one like this in the world! You will have sufficient time to explore, and then return to where you started, approximately 3-4 hours. There awaits your delicious lunch. Later you will board the bus, and return to Cusco, a 3-hour bus ride, arriving in Cusco around 6:30pm.
