With this private shore excursion you can visit the most important monuments of Syracuse. Choose among 3 time options (8.30 am-12.30 pm, 10.00 am-2.00 pm or 2:00-6.00 pm) considering the scheduled arrival and departure times of your cruise ship in the port. At the dock you will meet your professional, licensed guide who will give you an introduction about the town. Included in the tour we offer the transfer service from the dock to the Neapolis park and back to Ortygia by car or minivan with private driver. It takes about 5-10 minutes to move between the dock and the Neapolis park, the most important archaeological area in Syracuse. It's also an Unesco world heritage. Your guide will lead you through the park for a walking tour. This part of the visit lasts about 1h30m and you will see the Greek theatre, the Latomie stone quarries, the Ear of Dionysius, the altar of Hieron and the Roman Amphitheatre. After this visit there's time for an optional break for a coffee or icecream. Then you will move by car or minivan to Ortygia, the old town center. You will pass also near the ancient St. John's church and the modern Shrine of Our Lady of Tears. Your guide on board will tell you about this monuments and Syracuse. Once arrived in Ortygia your guide will lead you through the picturesque town center. The walking tour lasts about 1h30m and you will see the ruins of the ancient Apollo temple, the Diana fountain, cathedral square and Aretusa well. Depending the seasonal openings and religious services you will visit also the interiors of the unique cathedral (built over an ancient Greek temple) and St. Lucy's church with an important masterpiece of the painter Caravaggio. An optional coffee break or a walk through the typical fish market (open only in the morning) are possible on request. The cruise ship dock is at the entrance of Ortygia. At the end of the tour you can have a walk with your guide and return to your ship or you can choose to stay in Ortigya to enjoy the town and return to the harbor on your own.
