Adventure to Ocho Rios and Dunn's River Falls on this 7-hour guided tour from Montego Bay. In a small group of no more than 15, take in the landscape and Caribbean Sea views as you drive along the northeast coast and explore the lush vegetation of Fern Gully. Prepare to get wet as you climb the natural terraced steps to the top of the teeming waterfall.
Your day begin with a pickup from your Montego Bay hotel by your driver-guide. Climb aboard the air-conditioned minivan and head into the heart of Ocho Rios to experience the hustle and bustle of Jamaican life.
Next, drive along a winding road leading to Fern Gully, a unique rainforest which boast hundreds of different varieties of ferns. Many writers such as Marianne North, Lady Brassey, and Antonio Gallenga wrote about Gully Road on their voyages to Ocho Rios. No one knows the origin of the Fern Gully but it is said that it started out with an underground river flowing through caves and then, when the the roofs collapsed, Fern Gully was revealed. Others have suggested that it was formed in the 1760s by a flash flood.
Marvel at lush fern vegetation as you travel through this ancient gully. Along the way, you can purchase a souvenir from one of the many craft vendors.
After a 15-minute drive along the north coast with views of the Caribbean Sea, arrive at Dunn's River Falls. The falls are 180 feet (55 meter) high and 600 feet (183 meters) long with natural terraced steps for climbing. Enter the park with your prepaid tickets and be greeted by a licensed "Fall Guide" who provides an introduction and safety orientation before the climb.
After this memorable experience, there's the option to make a lunch stop at one of Jamaica's famed jerk centers. Enjoy a taste of local chicken and pork along with a ice-cold Red Stripe beer or tropical fruit drink (meal and drink at own cost). After lunch, wind down from your adventure by browsing the many Ocho Rios gift shops and craft stores before being dropped off back at your hotel or cruise ship.
