Leave the city to enjoy a ride on one of the most beautiful roads in the world: Transfagarasan! This is one of the highest roads in Romania, ascending to an altitude of 2.034 meters among superb mountain ranges. Enjoy a relaxed, personalised experience and be overwhelmed and energized by the magnificence of nature!
Your guide will pick you up at your hotel in Bucharest at 8am. You will start your journey towards the mountains, rich in rural views. Your first stop is at Curtea de Arges, the former capital of the Wallachian principality. Here you will visit Romania’s most beautiful monastery, built in the sixteenth century. The monastery is a veritable piece of architecture, both on the inside and the outside, and it is enchanted with a strange legend.
Then, you will head to Poenari Citadel, the remains of Vlad Tepes, or Count Dracula’s, real castle. It is an imposing fortress that will greet you with spectacular views of the forest surrounding it. We continue our journey towards Vidradu Lake, a storage lake with a 166 meters tall dam – one of the highest in the world. From here, you will enter Transfagarasan – the best road in the world, according to Top Gear specialists. It starts to ascend slowly through the forest, but climbs up high until it reaches highest point near Balea Lake, a beautiful glacier lake that will soothe you with stillness and silence. Here you will find Balea Chalet, where you will enjoy a traditional rustic lunch close to the clouds.
Lunch is followed by a descent on Transfagarasan, again amongst splendid natural views, and then you will return to Bucharest. Tour guide will drop you off at your hotel or your chosen location.
