Potsdam is a rather small but historically rich city, together with Berlin Potsdam, was the center of Prussian power. It was also of enormous importance to the Soviets after the Second World War. In the summer of 1945, the Potsdam Conference of the victorious Allied powers was held here.
Potsdam became one of the most important and largest Soviet bases in East Germany, with countless facilities and thousands of Soviet soldiers who characterized the street life for almost 50 years! The tour takes you through Soviet Potsdam to one of its most important secret service bases, the location of the Potsdam Conference, and the world famous Bridge of Spies.
At the beginning of the walking tour, guests will see the historical city center and learn about the final battles in World War II and the destruction of the city. You also will learn about the controversial urban development during socialism in GDR and today. After a visit of the central Soviet War Memorial of Potsdam, take the public bus to the venue of the Potsdam Conference, where Truman, Stalin, and Churchill met in the summer 1945. Later, visit the once restricted area of a former Soviet military town with KGB headquarters. The last stop of the walking tour is the world famous Bridge of Spies, where the CIA and KGB exchanged spies during the Cold War.
